How To Properly Care For Your Fabricated Granite Countertop

After you have had your granite countertop installed, you may be wondering how to keep it maintained so that it looks great for years to come. Well you don’t need a really expensive cleaner to keep your countertop looking beautiful! Follow these do’s and don’ts so that your granite countertop remains elegant and functional!

DO:

Ensure your countertop is sealed! Even though granite is a hard surface, and less porous than marble, unsealed or improperly sealed granite will absorb oils, spills, and stains. An easy way to tell if your granite countertop has been sealed correctly is by leaving a few drops of water on the surface. If the water beads, you have a good seal. If the water soaks into the granite after a minute or two, it needs to be resealed.

Always wipe up spills immediately.

Clean using warm water, a mild or gentle soap, and a microfiber cloth.

DON’T:

Never use abrasive cleaners, sponges, Windex, acidic cleaners like vinegar, lemon, lime, or anything with ammonia or bleach. These types of chemicals will weaken the sealant over time.
