Marble comes in a variety of colors and many have different qualities, such as the amount of veining, etc. This being said, there are 5 main kinds of marble that are widely used or regarded in the world. These five kinds are Carrara, Statuary, Calacatta, Emperador, and Crema Marfil. Some of these are rarer than others, and some are more widely used in homes and by contractors. Let’s learn a little bit more about these different kinds of marble.
Carrara is one of the most commonly used marbles for residences. This is that white background marble with gray veining. It also comes in a few different varieties. Some of the other background colors it comes in are blue and blue-gray, and the veining is also very different for different pieces of marble. This includes small and fine veining, as well as soft and feathery veining.
Statuary Marble also always has a uniform background, but what sets this apart from the other kinds of marble is its dramatic veining. Typically coming in light gray tones, it has darker and larger veining, while maintaining a shiny, glossy, and reflective surface.
This type of marble is one of the most luxurious in the world, due to its rarity. It is extremely similar to Carrara and is even quarried from the same area in Italy, however, it does have its differences from Carrara. One of the most striking differences in the dark and thick veining, which differentiates itself strongly.
Hailing from Spain, Emperador marble really makes its mark in the world of marble. This is because it comes in many different colors, which are perfect for the interior of homes. The colors are a bit darker and come in shades of brown, which add the perfect touch to areas such as a fireplace, or a reading nook.
This marble also comes from Spain and is largely used by contractors and interior designers, due to its more rustic look. Coming in light beige and a yellow shaded color, this is perfect for floors in a home.
